Exploring Ireland

Full Day Tour

We booked our tour on a site called Irish Day Tours.

If you haven’t heard of this site, it is another great source for checking out the different trips and tours available in Ireland. They are part of the Ei Travel Group, which is one of Ireland’s leading tour operators. Irish Day Tours is similar to TripAdvisor or Viator and provides a lot of information when you click into different tours as well as reviews on them.  Highly recommend using them if you are about to plan a trip and are not sure where to go or start when seeing the next beautiful city on your agenda. If you have a Student ID, it’s recommended to bring it with you and try to get Student Discounted Tickets!

The Agenda

1. Start – Molly Malone Statue

Hop aboard an air conditioned, or heated, bus depending on the season out of Dublin. Bring a blanket, earphones, a good book, and a camera.

Personally, I still thought it was way too early (7:15 am) to be starting a tour after a night of drinking whiskey so I took a nap and when I woke up we were at the first stop …

2. See Caherconnel Fort & Sheep Dog Demo

Caherconnel is a stone fort that was built in the Bronze Age (3000 BC – 1200 BC). After walking around the fort, you’ll watch well trained Border Collies herd a bunch of sheep. There’s a cute little gift shop here that you get to spend some time in too.

Watch a video of the Sheep Dog “Master” directing the Border Collies by whistling. If you don’t like whistling, don’t watch this video! The dogs were so well trained. I was wondering if I could get all of my dogs that well trained. One sheep also really liked me and for a few moments, I thought about taking it home with me. Yeah, they are really cute!

3. Doolin

A quaint town on the edge of the Atlantic with colored houses. We had lunch at a local restaurant called Fitzpatrick’s.

The food was excellent and pretty cheap! I ate eating soup, bread, and some mushroom and cheese pasta while listening to Irish Folk Music.

4. Cliffs of Moher – 1 Hour Boat Tour

You will get the chance to relive the scene from Harry Potter – In September 2007, a crew spent a week at the Cliffs of Moher to film Harry and Dumbledore standing on a rock which is moving toward a sea cave at the Cliffs.

The wind was strong and the waves were intense. Be aware, it was a bit nauseating at times but it was worth it!

5. Cliffs Walk

Take your camera out and get your best picture of the Cliffs. How could you not? Just make sure not to get too close to the edge!

We waited all day for this breathtaking view. And it was more than worth the very long day!

**DISCLAIMER**

Some tour guides talk too much. Just make sure you have earphones so you can decide what you want to listen to! This exact tour was 12 hours and 45 minutes 🙂 and only runs from April 1st through October 31st. If you’re traveling outside of these dates, click here for the Winter Itinerary.
